Talk of the Wall: Media Overreach

Zach Thomas obviously took one too many hits to the head. Claiming that the Jets did something wrong if they lined up out of bounds to "restrict the space of the gunner."

Hello? This moron is actually claiming that the gunner has a right to cheat by going out of bounds to avoid blocks and the opposing team has no right to stand on their own sideline while off the field! That’s surreal.

So now Miami, which is notorious for influencing a playoff game by manipulating conditions on the field of play (i.e., The Mud Bowl) is now demanding the right to tell opposing teams where to line up off the field less they impede Miami’s ability to cheat. Let’s remember that NFL rules call for a 15 yard penalty for this type of cheating.

On the play in question, the Miami gunner (after being caught once) was so far out of bounds that he was actually altering course to get back in front of the players standing along the sideline when he was tripped. Watch the tape! The gunner was so far out of bounds he had to make a quick decision: try to run behind all the Jet players between the players and the stands or make a quick cut to get back to the sideline and be only moderately out of bounds.

Steve Tasker, a long time premier Special Teamer saw nothing wrong with the Jets lining up anywhere along their own sideline, but I wholly expect Goodell (bending to the media) to come up with a new rule telling teams where to stand on the sideline.

I know the media has to make money by feigning outrage, but this is ridiculous.

Rex Has Gone!

The bad thing about the Miami loss is that it was unnecessary. If the Offense showed anything it would've been an easy win. The Jets had to work hard to lose that game and they succeeded.

Re-watched the game and as usual most of all this week's games and came to a shocking conclusion: Rex is playing scared! Instead of playing to win and attacking, Rex is now playing not to lose and the team has received the message loud and clear.

Think about it. After attacking Miami to trap them just outside their own End Zone before half-time, he backed off and allowed them to run out the clock despite having two timeouts left. Then after losing a close game, he complained about the Miami punter changing field position and getting them out of jams!

There is no way the Rex Ryan who came here last year would not have forced Miami to run plays out of their End Zone and possibly geiting a Safety or Interception for an easy score. Rex has changed!

Similarly, in his attempt to (correctly) emphasize ball security with Schotty and Sanchez, the Jets Offense has gone into a less aggressive mode and mindset.

I agree with all that say for this time and with these players, Schotty should be fired. Either he doesn't know how to get the most out of his weapons or his players don't want to put it all on the line when they play for him. On both accounts that makes him a bad coach.

As much as I like Rex, he has changed. He's lost his swagger and although he still talks about "taking on anyone, anywhere" he's sending the opposite message when he harps on the other team's Defense living off turnovers. Remember, when he did this before the Ravens' game the Jets also couldn't score a TD and lost 10-9.

The line between stressing ball security and limiting the aggressiveness of your Offense can be a fine one and Rex has crossed that line. If he doesn't make the correction soon, this season will be lost.

A team takes on the personality of it's coach so Rex should look into the mirror to fix what's wrong.
